Big 12 Schedule Sets up Nicely for Longhorns

Texas has some very winnable games early on that could create a lot of momentum down the road.

I've got to love the way this sets up if I'm Shaka Smart and his staff.

The Longhorns have five very winnable games to start things off all equally spread out on a Saturday-Tuesday rotation. Texas is getting a Hoiberg-less ISU team early enough in the season that maybe, perhaps, they won't be firing on all cylinders like I suspect they will be midway through Big 12 play. Plus, Texas will have a nasty taste in its mouth after the cruddy performance they gave against ISU in the Big 12 Tourney.

Win those games and momentum will be soaring heading into a tough two-game stretch at WVU and at KU (Wed.-Sat turnaround).

With the exception of the TCU game, which follows that trip to Allen Fieldhouse, things start to get a little tricky after that.

Texas has a tough four-game stretch which includes three road games (BU, OU, ISU). That Sooners-Cyclones is a Sat-Monday turnaround, which will be tough.

Must win the WVU, BU home games that follow to build some momentum going to a coin-flip game at KSU.

Come back with two MONSTER home games [OU/KU], which is another Sat-Mon turnaround. That, in many ways, could determine the whole season.

End the season on the road in the hostile environment that is Gallagher-Iba and then go into the Big 12 Tourney.

My way-too-damn-early Big 12 prediction: 13-5
