40 Acres Forecast: DeShon Elliott

We continue our look at scholarship players on Texas' 2015 roster with S DeShon Elliott.

DeShon Elliott

6-foot-1/205 pounds

High School:

Rockwall, Texas/Rockwall-Heath

2015 Preview

Elliott was expected to come in right away and push for a starting spot at safety but he suffered a toe injury early on in fall camp and has not participated since.

We are hearing that Elliott won’t need surgery, which is a great sign, so we’ll just have to wait and see when he’ll be able to return to practicing with the team.

HD Projection

A healthy Elliott is as good a safety as there is on this team so once he gets back to full health, gets into playing shape and feels confident in his coverage responsibilities you can expect him to be in the rotation at safety almost immediately.

Elliott, much like starting free safety Jason Hall, is a bone-crushing hitter who can also cover. He’s the type of safety the Longhorns have been searching for to protect the back end of their secondary for a while.

It’s only a matter of time before he is one of the best players in the program.

How he ended up on the 40 Acres

Chalk this one up as a victory for Charlie Strong over Kevin Sumlin.

Elliott had originally named Baylor his leader on Feb. 10, a handful of days after receiving his offer from BU. But Texas assumed the roll of leader following his Junior Day visit.

The Aggies were always going to have a chance, especially with his teammate Trevor Elbert being a commitment to A&M. But once Texas remained his leader after a trip to College Station, the sense was he would end up in Austin and that’s what happened.
