High School:

Hilton Head, S.C.

2014 Review

Ford came in with a lot of expectations being one of the players Charlie Strong hand-picked to round out Texas’ 2014 recruiting class.

He managed to make an impact despite playing at a position full of depth, which included first-round draft pick Malcom Brown. He finished with nine tackles (four solo), including one tackle-for-loss.

2015 Preview

The coaching staff is expecting Ford to ramp up his workload much more in Year 2, and he seems poised to take on the extra playing time.

Ford, by and large, has worked with the 1s throughout fall camp even as Tank Jackson works his way back from injury and Hassan Ridgeway, who was dinged up to start camp, gets back in the swing of things.

He is a key piece at a position that is as deep as any on the roster with himself, Jackson, Ridgeway, Paul Boyette Jr., Alex Norman, Chris Nelson, and Jake McMillon.

HD Projection

Ford is going to be one of Texas’ top defensive tackles.

The key for him this season is going to be consistency and how he handles the increase in playing time. Last season he didn’t have a game with more than two tackles.

That will change this season as the Longhorns work him with the idea that he’ll be a definite leader of the interior lineman a season from now with some guys leaving around him.

How he ended up on the 40 Acres

This is a player Charlie Strong really wanted in Austin.

Strong had him as a verbal pledge to Louisville so it should have come as to much of a surprise that he followed Strong to UT.

It did take some work though with teams like Louisville, Oregon, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and many others in hot pursuit.

Ford decommitted from Louisville on Jan. 10 and took an official visit to UT a week later.
