Four-star Longhorns wide receiver commitment Collin Johnson (San Jose, CA/Valley Christian) came to Austin for the Rice game hoping to see a renewed sense of urgency from his future program.
While there’s always room for improvement, Johnson was pleased with the growth he saw in the offense under the direction of Jay Norvell.
“Yeah I feel real confident in him,” Johnson said of Norvell. “I like how he takes advantage of the 1-on-1 matchups on the outside like [John] Burts and [Armanti] Foreman’s touchdowns.”
Johnson, the No. 4 receiver in California, also liked what he saw from Jerrod Heard in his first start for UT.
“He’s getting better and had a good game,” Johnson said.
As for the atmosphere inside Darrel K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium?
“I loved the atmosphere! The game experience is live,” he said.
Back to Norvell, Johnson said the message from his future position coach was simple.
“They’re just really working on getting better, and he’s confident calling plays because of his experience with the spread offense.
“He’s looking forward to me getting there and he says I’m going to cause a lot of matchup problems.”
