Here are several notes from Charlie Strong's postgame press conference.

Here are several notes from Charlie Strong's postgame press conference.

  • Strong said he was very proud of the team fighting back tonight after being down 21.

  • Strong is very happy to see the offense answer. There were a lot of mistakes that they need to get corrected.

  • Longhorns defense needs to get off blocks, which they didn't do a good job of tonight.

  • Strong said this game hurts a lot for Texas. Didn't say it was one of the most devastating but it does hurt.

  • Strong hopes this game is one that helps the team turn the corner. The Longhorns continued to play after being down by 21, which was huge for the team morale.

  • Important quote: "Jerrod Heard has brought excitement into the team."

  • Seeing the seniors take ownership for the loss and the guys actually feeling the hurt from this loss is something Strong thinks is a positive step. The team will rebound after the "crushing loss."

  • Strong said the team has to get things back together as it enters conference play. The team didn't play well on defense and the offense made some turnovers, there's still a ways to go but the team needs to move forward and be ready for Ok. State.

  • Strong told Nick Rose he has to keep his head up. This was a mistake that will get corrected.

  • Vaccaro and Locke stepped up when Jason Hall and Dylan Haines left the game. Strong believes they filled in and played well.

  • Charlie Strong said he has a different opinion about the targeting call against Dylan Haines.

  • Texas has not been able to make a team one dimensional. The defense has to play a lot better, guys just have to step up.

  • The long runs on defense were a lot of gap control issues by the Texas defense, Strong said.

  • Strong is excited about the offense, but it is negated by how poorly the team is playing on defense, especially as it prepares for conference play.

  • Strong was happy to see Mike Perrin when he got off the bus today. "I know he will do a great job."
