Buechele joins WR Collin Johnson, the younger brother of Texas RB Kirk Johnson, and LB Demarco Boyd, the younger brother of CB Kris Boyd, as members of the 2016 class who have signed financial aid documents, clearing the way for them to enroll at Texas in January.
Longhorns' fans will breathe a sigh of relief when Buechele, a 4-star talent at Arlington Lamar and the son of former Texas Rangers infielder Steve Buechele, enrolls in January after the demotion of Shawn Watson as UT's offensive play caller.
Watson, who remains Texas' QB coach, has been the lead recruiter on Buechele, who won the accuracy competition at the Elite 11 Finals over the summer and who also plans to play baseball for the Longhorns.
Collin Johnson, Scout's No. 15 receiver nationally in 2016, and Texas freshman RB Kirk Johnson are the sons of former Texas Longhorns' All-American defensive back Johnnie Johnson.
Collin Johnson, who committed to Texas at the same time his brother Kirk did while on a trip to UT on April 17, 2014, tore his labrum in early September, ending his high school season. Collin has had surgery and is expected to be ready to take part in spring ball at Texas.
Demarco Boyd, who is listed as the No. 53 outside linebacker in 2016, is playing at Gilmer, where he and brother Kris Boyd helped Gilmer win the 4A Division II state title last year under then-coach Jeff Traylor, who is now Texas' tight ends coach. Demarco (6-2, 215) has played linebacker and running back for Gilmer this season but is expected to play linebacker at Texas.
