Zach Shackelford checks in at 6-foot-4, 290-pounds out of Belton (Texas) He holds offers from Kansas State, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Illinois, Iowa State, Navy, Oklahoma State and the Texas Longhorns to name a few.
“Atmosphere was great,” Zach Shackelford said. “Been here before but its’ great every time I come.”
Texas extended a verbal offer to the talented linemen and showed him how important he is to the class of 2016 by having numerous coaches spend time with him. Shackelford spent time with Coach Jeff Traylor, Coach Joe Wickline, Coach Charlie Strong and Coach Brian Jean-Mary throughout the visit.
Shackelford could make another visit to Austin for the Thanksgiving showdown with Texas Tech later this month. He was able to spend some quality time with another big time target Texas is recruiting.
“I talked to Denzel Okafor after the game in the locker room for a while,” Shackelford said. “He and I were talking to Coach Wickline for about 20 minutes.”
Shackelford plays outside as a left tackle for his high school team, but likely projects best at the P5 level to a guard position. Plays with overt aggression. Tenacious player who plays through the whistle. Vigorously finishes blocks, especially in the run game. Because of playing experience, possibly position-versatile as OG or OT. Sometimes bends at the waist. Will be even better with improved foot quickness and pad level consistency. - G. Brooks
Shackelford’s strengths are his aggressiveness, run blocking skills, nasty streak and tenacity. He has everything Charlie Strong wants offensive linemen to have.
