Texas interim athletic director Mike Perrin said emphatically today on 104.9 The Horn that Charlie Strong will be back as coach for the 2016 season - "You can go to the bank on that."
Two sources told HornsDigest.com Texas officials - from the chancellor to the regents to president Greg Fenves to interim AD Perrin - are prepared to do whatever necessary to help Strong reset his coaching staff after the season, including a three-year guaranteed contract for a new offensive coordinator.
Late Thursday, I talked to someone involved in the Miami Hurricanes' coaching search who said that Strong had previously indicated to those connected to that search if the Miami job was offered, he'd take it. That source said Strong wasn't sure the support for him at Texas would be united going forward after nearly two years of questionable support from previous AD Steve Patterson.
It sounds like Perrin has reassured Strong the support will be united going forward.
I'm not sure Wednesday's press conference was Strong slamming the door shut on the Miami "rumor."
Maybe it was. Time will tell.
