Texas opens next season’s conference schedule at Oklahoma State on Oct. 1; regular season begins at home against Notre Dame

The Longhorns do not have a bye week during Big 12 play.

Charlie Strong and his Longhorns will have to manuever through a pair of Oklahoma foes to start Big 12 play in 2016. 

The conference announced the 2016 league football schedule on Tuesday bring to completion Texas' 2016 schedule. 

UT will begin conference play on Oct. 1 at Oklahoma State and then travel to Dallas the following week, Oct. 8, for its annual Red River Showdown with Oklahoma. 

Before the Longhorns jump in to the meat of their Big 12 schedule they'll have an opportunity to atone for their 2015 losses to Notre Dame and Cal when they open the season at home against the Irish on Sept. 3 and then travel to face the Golden Bears on Sept. 17. It will be the first time Notre Dame has played in AUstin since 1996 and the first time UT has played in Berkeley since 1969. 

Texas will host UTEP on Sept. 10. 

Texas opens its home conference schedule against Iowa State on Oct. 15, and then alternates home and away games for the rest of the season. That starts with a contest at K-State on Oct. 22, before returning home to play Baylor on Oct. 29.

The final month of the season begins on the road at Texas Tech (Nov. 5) before hosting West Virginia (Nov. 12), visiting Kansas (Nov. 19) and finishing the regular season with a short week on Thanksgiving Day at home against TCU (Nov. 24).

The Longhorns will have their lone bye week of the season in between the Cal and OSU games.
