Charlie Strong announced that Tyrone Swoopes will start at quarterback for the Longhorns on Saturday

We've also got updates on Jerrod Heard, Malik Jefferson, Hassan Ridgeway, Peter JInkens and more.

The Longhorns will limp into Waco on Saturday not only with a 4-7 record but also with several key starters not being able to play.

Texas head coach Charlie Strong said at his weekly press conference on Monday that senior linebacker Peter Jinkens, sophomore running back D’Onta Foreman, freshman offensive guard Patrick Vahe, and freshman running back Kirk Johnson will not play.

Jerrod Heard has been cleared to practice and is day-to-day so Strong said that Tyrone Swoopes will start at quarterback.

“He’s such a competitor, but it was a concussion,” Strong said. “We may not need him if Swoopes plays well. Swoopes will start Saturday.”

Strong is hopeful that senior running back Johnathan Gray will be able to return from a toe injury and listed him as day-to-day. He missed last week’s game against Texas Tech.

Three players listed as “questionable” for Saturday at freshman linebacker Malik Jefferson, junior defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway and junior safety Dylan Haines.
