Shackelford talks season and more

I caught up with 2016 three-star offensive guard Zach Shackelford to see how his season went and how his recent offer from Texas has impacted his recruitment.

Shackelford and the Belton Tigers had a rough season in 2015.

“[The season] was alright,” Shackelford said. “We went 4-6. Lost a lot of games we shouldn’t have. All of the games we lost we should have won. Didn’t have much of a defense our last game. We lost 65-64 and we had a two touchdown lead with three minutes to go.

“The whole year our team struggled defensively – Hard to do anything without one. But our offense did great all year.”

Shackelford added that he feels he played well during his senior season. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman recorded around 110 knockdowns 60 pancakes.

Shackelford has planned to enroll early at Kansas State and he said that’s still the plan as of now. He received an offer from Texas on Nov. 7. Shackelford said he doesn’t know if the offer from the Longhorns will change his recruitment.

“Not sure,” he said.

Shackelford is the No. 7 guard in Texas, No. 7 in the Midlands region and No. 34 in the nation at his position.
