OG Zach Shackelford is expecting Texas

Charlie Strong and the Texas Lonhgorns coaching staff are looking for a few good men on the offensive line. With Tope Imade and Denzel Okafor already on board the Longhorns turn their attention to offensive guard Zach Shackelford.

Belton (Texas) standout Zach Shackelford checks in at 6-foot-4, 290-pounds.  The three-star interior standout is committed to Kansas State.

My Take

The biggest need positions for the class of 2016 is the offensive line for Charlie Strong.  Texas has two good ones committed but is looking for more pieces to add to the puzzle.  Shackelford is big, nasty and punishes defenders through the sound of the whistle.  He is one of those players every coach loves to have in the trenches.  Going seemingly under the radar for most of his senior season, Shackelford has drawn high praise from the Texas staff and they are in the mix in a major way.  Coach Brian Jean-Mary will visit Shackelford on Friday December 4th, 2015.  He is scheduled to make his official visit to Kansas State the weekend of December 12th and will enroll in January of the school of his choice.  Texas fans need to keep an eye on this one.

Scout.com Take

Shackelford plays outside as a left tackle for his high school team, but likely projects best at the P5 level to a guard position. Plays with overt aggression. Tenacious player who plays through the whistle. Vigorously finishes blocks, especially in run game. Because of playing experience, possibly position-versatile as OG or OT. Sometimes bends at waist. Will be even better with improved foot quickness and pad level consistency. - G. Brooks
