Longhorns freshman linebacker Malik Jefferson has been named the Big 12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year

He is the sixth Longhorn to win the award.

It came as no surprise on Monday that Longhorns linebacker Malik Jefferson was named Big 12 Freshmen Defensive Player of the Year.

Jefferson is the sixth Longhorn to win this award along with Quandre Diggs, Brian Orakpo, Roderique Wright, Derrick Johnson and Corey Redding.

Jefferson, a five-star recruit, had 61 tackles in 11 games for the Longhorns. He missed Texas' season-ending victory over Baylor with an ankle injury and played much of the last half of the season with a stomach bug.
