Boyd, who will be an early enrollee, got a taste of what he can expect this weekend when he took his official visit to UT along with several other commitments and recruits.
"It was good," he said. "I loved it."
One of the highlights of the trip was the time he got to spend at Texas' basketball game on Saturday, which ended with UT's Javan Felix nailing a jumper at the buzzer to give the Longhorns an 84-82 win over No. 3 North Carolina.
"The cherry on top was all this happened and Coach Shaka [Smart] got him a great win," Boyd said. "I want to meet Coach Shaka."
Boyd has long been one of the biggest supporters and recruiters for the Longhorns, and that continued over the weekend with several major Texas targets in town.
The player Boyd said he was trying to talk up the most was Tennessee defensive tackle commitment D'Andre Christmas-Giles, who the Longhorns offered several weeks ago and who has since become one of the hottest recruits in the country.
Boyd couldn't get too good a read on Christmas-Giles but he does think that Texas is going to end this class on a hot streak the way the Longhorns finished 2015.
