On Friday, St. Stephens Episcopal School’s boys’ basketball team faced off against St. John’s. Texas target Jarrett Allen (Austin/ St. Stephens) helped lead the Spartans to a 58-57 win over their SPC rival.
After the big win, Allen said his list has not changed. Texas is still in the mix in his top eight schools. Allen is enjoying the process and is in no rush to make his decision.
“I’ll decide by the deadline,” the prospect said laughing.
The Spartans played Houston Christian the next day and got a big win 77-54. Allen headed to the Texas v. Oklahoma State basketball game right after where he watched the Horns get a big conference win.
The Horns were without big man Cam Ridley, which Allen has been paying attention to. He said the injury to Ridley does not make much of a difference as far as his decision goes.
“It shows me, without a big man, what they could be,” Allen said.
With three of the four big men for Texas graduating in May, there is an open slot for 6’10 Allen. If he were to go to Texas, Allen would join Shaq Cleare and commit James Banks.
Head coach Shaka Smart has been keeping up with Allen. According to the recruit, Smart called him the previous week just to catch up. Allen even received some of Smart’s infamous “quote of the day” texts.
“I used to get them, but they’ve slowed down since the season started,” he said. “He’s a fun guy to talk to.”
St. Stephens closed out the weekend with two wins full of blocks and huge dunks by Allen and teammate DeAnthony Owens. The Spartans next game is Tuesday against San Antonio Central.
