New Orleans tight end Irvin Smith has opened up his recruitment after backing off his Texas A&M commitment

Are the Longhorns in a good spot here?

This really did not come as a surprise to those following Irvin Smith's recruitment. It only seemed like a matter of time.

The Longhorns have been knocking on his door for a long time and are the perceived favorite to land the talented tight end, with Florida, Alabama and LSU in the mix as well.

Texas tight ends coach Jeff Traylor has made a big impact on Smith over the past couple of months, even making an in-home visit with him earlier this week.

UT has also benefitted from having one of Smith's best friends, Peyton Aucoin - a Longhorns commitment, talking up Texas for over half a year now.

This one isn't over with just yet. But Texas should feel good about its current position.
