On Monday, Texas received a verbal commitment from 5-10 2005 point guard A.J. Abrams of Austin McNeil High. Abrams averaged 17 points and 8 assists last season and played at the Nike All-American Camp.
Abrams distinguished himself at Nike Camp with his stroke from long range. They'll be plenty of good players around him in Austin when he gets there and his role will be clear. "Mainly what it is now, to get other people involved and score when I need to," Abrams said. "We'll have everybody who can score there so I won't have to do much of that."
"I've always been a Longhorns fan. I've always liked Texas. It was very easy. That's where I always wanted to go."
UT's interest in Abrams was sparked by a fine performance at their elite camp in June. "I went down to Texas Elite Camp and Coach Haith started talking to me and they liked the way I play. I went to their offices and figured that was the place I wanted to go."
And in the fall of 2005, that's exactly where you can see him.
