Four-Star QB Sam Ehlinger Visits Texas for Junior day

The University of Texas and Charlie Strong are off to a strong start for the 2017 recruiting class with four verbal commitments. One of them, Sam Ehlinger attended the first junior day of the season for the Longhorns.

Sam Ehlinger checks in at 6-foot, 200-pounds out of Austin (Texas) Westlake.  The signal caller is the future of the position for Texas fans eagerly waiting for his arrival.  Ehlinger didn’t spend his time with any one specific recruit but instead spent as much time with everybody.

“It was great to finally see all the big time guys in person that we’re trying to get and I didn’t hang with people specifically I talked to a lot of people,” Sam Ehlinger said.

Ehlinger is excited about new offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert and the familiarity he will have running the Texas offense in the future.

“Coach [Sterlin] Gilbert made it seem to be a fast and efficient offense that is very similar to coach Dodges offense,” Ehlinger said.

Charlie Strong has landed the No 1 ranked recruiting class in the Big 12 for a second consecutive season a feat he will repeat in 2017.

“It’s always fun to be around Coach Strong and it was good to see him again,” Ehlinger said.  National Signing Day was great and to see all the great recruits realizing how good Texas is was amazing,” Ehlinger said.

Scout.com Take

Ehlinger is a consistent and productive quarterback in Texas HS football's largest class who projects to the high-major level. Best trait = accuracy. Consistently hits receivers in right spots, especially on short/intermediate routes. Great touch/accuracy on downfield patterns outside numbers. Quick release. Good velocity. Commands his offense as obvious alpha. Lacks ideal size. Athletic enough to be dangerous runner when play breaks down.-Brooks
