TEXAS WOMEN ADVANCE TO SWEET 16

Karen Aston's 30-4 Longhorns' set out to improve on last season, which ended in a Sweet 16 loss. They're one win away from reaching their goal.

Dominating performance by the Longhorns, who destroy Mizzou on the boards (47-33) and in the paint (38 points to 10) and get 22 points from Ariel Atkins on 9-of-13 FG (3-4 3PT).

Next stop - Bridgeport (Conn) Region for the Sweet 16 vs No 3-seeded UCLA and a likely Elite Eight berth against three-time defending national champion UConn.

Texas head coach Karen Aston:

"I can't say enough how proud I am of this team. To win 30 games takes a lot of effort from a lot of people. This is a team that's fun to coach."

Ariel Atkins, who led Texas with 22 points , on returning to the Sweet 16 in back to back years:

"We want to do more. We're confident in who we are right now."

MY TAKE:

I thought Texas' ability to maintain high intensity on defense - even as the shots weren't falling early (0-of-7 FG to start the game, with 2 turnovers as well) is a great sign of maturity for this team.

Let's see how it travels now.

Great home win tonight - win No. 30 - in a special season that can become much more special with even one more win (vs UCLA).
