The Texas coaching staff is looking for exceptional playmaking ability at the wide receiver position in 2017. Texas fans can expect to see three wide receivers in the class of 2017.
Four-star Tyrell Shavers checks in at 6-foot-5, 205-pounds from Lewisville (Texas) Lewisville High School is home to current Texas Longhorn offensive lineman Denzel Okafor, who signed last month. Shavers is unranked but holds offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Stanford, Arkansas, Miami and Texas to name a few.
“It’s really picked up since the opening, and I’m really enjoying it a lot,” Tyrell Shavers said.
Shavers and Okafor have a great relationship. The future offensive line standout has shared his recruiting experience with the younger Shavers.
“Never rush into anything,” Shavers said. “Take the process slow and steady and make the right decision.”
Shavers opened up plenty of eyes at a recent regional opening camp where he ran a sub 4.4. Speed is not the only thing that makes him a dangerous wide receiver.
“My ability to get open in man on man coverage and I’m working on dropping my hips at the top of my route,” Shavers said.
Shavers is looking forward to continuing his relationships with the Longhorn staff.
“I loved the Texas offer,” Shavers said. “My relationship is great with the coaches right now!”
Shavers has one spring game planned currently with a date on April 9th with A&M.
2015: Shavers caught 36 passes for 667 yards and 10 touchdowns on 18 yards per reception in a strong junior season.
2014: As a sophomore, Shavers caught 15 passes for 249 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 16.6 yards per reception.
