TEXAS WILL GO FOR SERIES WIN AT OU

After Oklahoma exploded for three runs in the first inning in Game 1 on Friday en route to a 6-1 victory, it was Texas that erupted for four runs in the first in Game 2 on Saturday en route to a 5-3 triumph in Norman to even the series 1-1. The Longhorns (12-15, 3-2 B12) will go for the series win over OU (13-14-1, 1-4) on Sunday.

After Kody Clemens walked, Travis Jones reached base on a fielder's choice bunt and then Kacy Clemens walked, Tres Barrera and Patrick Mathis hit back-to-back doubles in the first inning off of OU starter Ryan Madden to put Texas up, 4-0.

Madden stayed in the game for OU and didn't give up another run until the sixth inning, when Mathis rapped his second double of the game to left center, scoring Kacy Clemens, who had walked to open the inning.

Kacy Clemens scored two runs in the game after walking each time.

Mathis finished 2-for-4 at the plate with the two doubles bringing in three runs and then scored one run himself.

For Texas on the mound, Ty Culbreth went 6 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits with four Ks and no walks.

Culbreth was replaced by Chase Shugart, who went two scoreless innings, followed by lefty Travis Duke, who got one out in the ninth, then Connor Mayes, who got the second out in the ninth while giving up a hit. Josh Sawyer came in and got the final out when OU pinch hitter Hunter Haley popped out to Sawyer.

In Game 1 on Friday, Oklahoma hit three home runs off of Texas starter Morgan Cooper, including a 3-run bomb in the first inning to hand Cooper (1-1, 4.55 ERA) his first loss of the season, in a 6-1 Sooners' victory.

NEXT UP: ... With the series tied 1-1, Game 3 in Norman is at 1 pm CT on Sunday with RHP Kyle Johnston (1-1, 3.34 ERA) expected to face OU RHP Jake Elliott (0-0, 5.13).
