Here are five takes from HD's Chip Brown after the Texas Spring Game:

#1 ... I'll be shocked if Shane Buechele isn't the starting QB against Notre Dame. His quick decision-making, accurate throws and ability to scramble and still keep his eyes down the field and make plays hasn't been seen inside DKR on a consistent basis since Colt McCoy.

It's fine if coaches want to wait, but the fan momentum on this one is right - Buechele is the real deal. Charlie Strong said it best - the kid approaches the position like a job and doesn't get flustered and just keeps getting better and better.

#2 ... I'll be shocked if Charles Omenihu isn't the starting strongside DE against Notre Dame. The guy has made play after play - including two sacks in the spring game (after 2 sacks in the scrimmage last week). Texas has been desperate for that kind of production after Shiro Davis produced 1 sack all of last season.

#3 ... I'll be shocked if Breckyn Hager isn't the starting Fox end against Notre Dame. He's only been playing the position for a week, and made three plays on Saturday behind the line of scrimmage against the No. 1 offense. Naashon Hughes was nonexistent in the spring game (2 tackles and missed a tackle), and he was going up against the No. 2 offense.

#4 ... I'll be shocked if DeShon Elliott - aka The Kraken - doesn't live on the field this season. All he does is make plays. Don't get me started about not seeing this kid on the field. This better not have been extended time because Dylan Haines (leg/cut) and Jason Hall (ankle) were injured. RELEASE THE KRAKEN!

#5 ... The best news coming out of the spring is that the chemistry on the team is clearly an unquestioned positive - among the players and coaches.
