Four-Star DE LaBryan Ray Talks Recruiting

One of the most heavily recruited players in the Southeast checks in from James Clemens High School. Madison (AL) standout defensive end Labryan Ray checks in at 6-foot-4, 270-pounds.

LaBryan Ray holds offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Missouri, Notre Dame and Texas to name a few.

“It’s been good,” LaBryan Ray said.  Coaches from Auburn, Georgia, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Mississippi State have come by to see me.”

Texas and defensive line coach Brick Haley will venture into the state of Alabama this week.  Will the connection with coach Haley help the Longhorns cause?

“They (Mr. Ray & Brick Haley) are close,” Ray said.  “They played in college together.”

Ray is building a relationship with Charlie Strong.

“Our relationship is still growing because we recently started talking,” Ray said.

Ray doesn’t know what officials he will take but should be aware by the fall.  For now, he and his teammates are focused on the upcoming season.

“I think we are going to be even better than we were last year,” Ray said.  “I think our defense is going even better, and our offense is going to be good too.  We do have to find a QB, but we have great options.  I think I am a leader and will continue to be one.”

Scout.com Take

Ray started off as a weakside end prospect, then became one considered a strongside end down the road. It is not out of the question that he grows into a defensive tackle. He has an excellent body and frame. His length is good, and he carries his weight extremely well. His motor stands out consistently. He plays hard. He also plays his keys, plays disciplined football and does his job. He is not an elite pass rusher yet, but he does put pressure on quarterbacks. He can set the edge, and he plays the run well. As a junior, he took off. He has real upside.
