Four-Star Signal Caller Sam Ehlinger Talks the Opening

Future Texas signal caller Sam Ehlinger returned home from the Opening earlier today. The four-star quarterback checks in from Austin (Texas) Westlake High School.

Future Texas standout Sam Ehlinger returned home from his time at the Opening earlier this evening.  What did the four-star standout have to say about his performance this week?

“At the Opening, I learned a lot and had a very good time,” Sam Ehlinger said.  “I did pretty well and exceeded people’s expectations.”

Even though he didn’t get a lot of opportunity in the finals (two series) he made the most of them.

“On the final two drives I just wanted to prove a point that I should’ve been playing the whole game,” Ehlinger said.  “My mindset was control the things you can control and when I got my opportunity I made them look silly.”

Current Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson was one of many Opening participants to spend some time with the rising seniors.

“Malik is the man, and it was great to hang out with him a little and get to know him better,” Ehlinger said.  “I mostly hung out with Davis Mills, and we didn’t have a lot of time away from the cameras and lights.”

Plenty of recruits that competed this weekend at the Opening have the Texas Longhorns on their short list.  How many of them does Ehlinger believe will sign with Texas?

“Three or four,” Ehlinger said.
