Nice, 100-degree scorcher for Fan Day practice (players were still not in pads yet).
#1 ... I thought DT Jordan Elliott had a good day among the freshmen DL. He made a couple wow plays during inside drill.
#2 ... Charles Omenihu was in the backfield a lot today. He's coming on folks.
#3 ... I really like DB Chris Brown, who is backing up PJ Locke at nickel. He closes fast - and other guys were dead-legged late in practice, he was still flying around.
#4 ... For the second day in a row, sophomore RB Kirk Johnson took advantage of increased reps with Chris Warren III nursing a hamstring injury. Johnson ran well, caught the ball well and was part of the most heated moment of inside drill, when he collided with Malik Jefferson and the two came up jawing and scrapping - until coaches broke them up.
#5 ... Freshman RB Kyle Porter never seemed to leave D'Onta Foreman's side during Sunday's practice. And Porter can scoot.
RB coach Anthony Johnson told me Porter had ankle surgery right after Katy's season last year - and played in the playoffs with the injured ankle, including the 6A state title game win over Lake Travis - when Porter ran for 188 yards and 3 TDs. "That tells you a little something about his toughness," Johnson said.
#6 ... Devin Duvernay flashed for the second day in a row at WR - lined up Sunday behind John Burt at outside WR. Duvernay blew by S Jason Hall for a deep TD reception in 7-on-7. Duvernay is a 4.38 guy in the 40 - so he has the ability to do that to a lot of DBs this season.
#7 ... At quarterback ...
