DEFENSIVE BACKS

The defensive backfield is starting to take shape with three verbal commitments at this time.

Josh Thompson

Montrell Estell

Kobe Boyce

This puts Texas in a great position to zero in on the top remaining DB’s on the board, whether it’s 2017 5-star ATH Jeffrey Okudah, Grant Delpit  or Calloway or whoever – Texas needs one more DB to reach their goal of four, in my opinion.

Again, the media/fan base is not privileged with knowing all the inner workings behind the scenes with regards to exactly which players are targeted or which players Texas is keeping an eye on.

DEFENSIVE END

Lagaryonn Carson

I think the defensive end position appears to be the most intriguing as we close in on the start of the season.

Texas is still recruiting players such as K’Lavon Chaisson from Galena Park (Texas), Taquon Graham from Temple (Texas), LaBryan Ray from Madison (AL),  Ryan Johnson from Mobile (AL), Earnest Brown from Denton (Texas), Alec Jackson from Montgomery (AL) and Ondario Robinson from Hutto (Texas).  Again, fans/media not privileged with knowing all the inner workings behind the scenes with regards to other players at this position.

Texas' one verbal commitment at this time - from Lagaryonn Carson - could end up being a defensive tackle down the road.

DEFENSIVE TACKLE

I expect, yes it seems strange, but I expect to see Texas land two players in this class that end up playing inside.  The most notable are clearly Marvin Wilson.  Yes, I sound like a broken record BUT its imperative you understand what I am saying.  They have things going on people simply don’t understand right now –not all great not all bad, just things, off the record type things that every program has this time of year as it relates to recruiting.

LINEBACKER

Texas is one some big time linebackers, none bigger than Dylan Moses who at one time proclaimed to the world Texas is his leader.  Let’s see if that is backed up with multiple visits between now and the time he pulls the trigger.  Anthony Hines, Baron Browning, Tyler Taylor a few of the other kids at this position as well as Kenneth Murray.  The LB unit is the 2nd most interesting storyline in my mind behind only DE.

QUARTERBACK

Sam Ehlinger

With Ehlinger, Texas is all good at the QB position for 2017

RUNNING BACK

I think all eyes on JK Dobbins and a plus one right now.

TIGHT END

I believe the  family of Major Tennison is playing with fire at this point.

RECEIVER

Damion Miller

Miller is the lone wide receiver in the 2017 class at this time.  There is a chance, albeit a slight chance, but a chance nonetheless, Texas would have room for two more WRs.

But I believe you will more than likely only see one more at this position.

Omar Manning is the main name to keep an eye on.  However, some other things going on right now so all we can do it sit tight and watch what happens.

OFFENSIVE LINE

The OL is tricky for sure.  Texas has a verbal commitment from Xavier Newman, who a few weeks ago seemed dead set on flipping to Oklahoma.  As things stand today, it would appear they will take a total of three OL.  I cant see a 4th in this class unless something/someone comes out of left field.
