#1 ... Left guard Patrick Vahe suffered an ankle injury Thursday, but the severity isn't immediately clear, which means it's probably got a pretty good chance of being a concern.
#2 ... Redshirt freshman OL Buck Major suffered a season-ending hand ligament tear.
Tough news for Buck, who worked himself into better shape this summer (but was still working third team).
Here's what I picked up about Thursday's closed practice:
RB Kirk Johnson was back at practice going full speed in team situations after missing most of the last two weeks with an ankle injury.
C Jake McMillon continues to get reps with the first team in place of injured starter Zach Shackelford, who has a high-ankle sprain.
Brandon Hodges continues to get first-team reps at RT in place of Tristan Nickelson (ankle).
Erick Fowler worked with the third team at middle linebacker. Be patient here folks. Fowler will be on special teams long before he'll see action on defense.
Jason Hall and Dylan Haines ran with the first team at S. DeShon Elliott ran with the second team.
Jerrod Heard is getting a lot of first-team reps when the offense is in 4-wide - and even some in 3-wide.
Both Tyrone Swoopes and Shane Buechele got first team reps with Swoopes getting his reps first.
Based on his reps with the first team, Charles Omenihu is the starter at SDE.
Naashon Hughes appears to be the starter at Fox end - followed by Breckyn Hager and Malcolm Roach.
I'm told Thursday's practice focused on the game plan for Notre Dame and didn't include any tackle-to-the-ground hitting as the full contact in practice has been scaled back heading into game week.
