“I got to speak with Coach [Brick] Haley and coach Wilson, and they were very inviting as usual, and they were very friendly,” Zachary Gilson said. “The atmosphere is something else. I was very impressed with how loyal the fans are and on the way back to my car they were chanting the whole way. They are incredible fans. I knew what was coming when I got there, so it was no surprise how great Texas is to everyone that shows up. They also started a little slow but decided that UTEP wasn't on their level and showed them who owned the stadium. The Longhorns are a for sure on my list of colleges I'd love to go to.”
The first thing that stands out is his long frame at 6-foot-5, 220-pounds. Gilson has good speed off the edge and loves getting after the quarterback. He is long and lean with a quick first step and causes problems for bigger offensive tackles. Gilson will need to continue getting stronger but has a nose for the football. In time, as he fills out his frame, Gilson could become a terror off the edge.
Gilson checks in from the class of 2018.
