Texas offensive lineman Kent Perkins was arrested early Friday morning on DWI charge.
Police officers responded to a single car accident at W. 18th St. and San Antonio St. at 2:52 a.m., according to an Austin Police Department spokesperson. There were no injuries involved in the crash.
Perkins - the driver - was arrested for DWI without incident, according to APD.
Head coach Charlie Strong released the following statement regarding Perkins' arrest.
“We are aware of the situation involving Kent Perkins and gathering facts at this time. We’re disappointed in his actions and take a strong stance against drinking and driving. When you get behind the wheel after drinking, you not only risk your life, but the lives of others, and that’s something you just can’t do. We will make sure that Kent learns from this and handle any punishment once we have more information.”
A senior offensive lineman, Perkins has 26 career starts during his time at Texas. He has been an instrumental leader for the Longhorns in 2016.null
