2018 CB Tanner McCalister Has Interest from Three

Four-Star corner Tanner McCalister checks in from Rockwall (Texas) Rockwall-Heath. The 6-foot, 180-pound standout has interest from three.

The No 3 ranked cornerback prospect in the class of 2018 is Tanner McCalister.

“I’ve learned the recruiting process is a business,” Tanner McCalister said.  “TCU, SMU Mustangs and UCLA Bruins have shown the most interest so far.”

Rockwall-Heath is fighting for a playoff spot.

“Season is going good,” McCalister said.  “Currently fighting for a playoff spot these next two games. I've had success on the field coming down and tackling and causing fumbles and turnovers (being a defensive playmaker) I can improve on my consistency. Playing both ways offense and defense I sometimes may take a play off. So bringing my all every down is what I will do going forward.”

What does McCalister think about the Longhorns?

“Texas seems to be struggling a little, but I believe Coach Strong is a good coach,” McCalister said.

The No 12 ranked cornerback prospect wants to visit Baylor Bears.

Scout.com Take

The first thing that jumps out about McCalister is his upper body strength. He is put together and can overpower some receivers at the line of scrimmage. He could move around in the defensive backfield and could potentially grow into a safety fit, but evaluating him as a cornerback, he has great makeup speed and can close the gap quickly once a receiver makes a move out of his break to get open. Most players who are as put together as he is are not able to open up to turn and run the same way that McCalister can. He can match-up against bigger receivers, and he is a sure tackler when arrives at the football. - Greg Powers
