Another Texas Longhorns 3rd Down Drought Could Be Lethal Against Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Texas offense cannot afford to miss third down conversion opportunities in Lubbock when the Longhorns face Texas Tech.

In Texas' win over Baylor, the Longhorns' offense went 0-for-5 on third down from late in the second quarter until early in the fourth quarter - getting outscored 20-3 in that span.

UT saw a 23-14 lead evaporate - as well as the chance to put it on the Bears - as Baylor went up 34-26 with 8:54 left, forcing Texas to have to pull off a mad comeback for the win.

That kind of third-down conversion drought would sink the Horns at Tech on Saturday - against Red Raiders' QB Patrick Mahomes, the FBS all-time, single-game, total offense record-holder (819 yards vs OU).

The good news is the Texas offense was able to convert 1 of 2 Baylor turnovers into 7 points.

The previous 8 turnovers forced by the Texas defense were converted into a total of 3 points.
