2019 Safety Prospect Anfernee Orji On the Record

Anfernee Orji checks in from Rockwall (Texas) at 6-foot-1, 205-pounds. The 2019 standout safety prospect will be on the radar of many college coaches over the next several seasons.

One of the most heavily recruited players in the state of Texas for 2019 will be safety Anfernee Orji.

“I describe my game as fast but also smart, as a safety I have help in the run and the pass and I think I have excelled at doing both,” Anfernee Orji said.  “However, I think I can work on focusing on my keys and not going off on my own.  I will continue to work on my coverage and ball skills going forward. With our team (Rockwall high) being in the playoffs at 5-5 I need to be at my best.”

Some of the biggest names in college football are at his doorstep.

“The attention is amazing,” Orji said. “To know that all of these big schools like Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide are looking at me seriously as a player. It builds my confidence knowing that these schools are recruiting me even when both mine and their seasons are going on.”

Orji has visited many schools for unofficial visits this season.

“In all, I've been to Texas A&M, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, Arkansas, Stanford, Ohio State, and SMU,” Orji said. “I've been to Texas vs. Norte Dame. Alabama vs. USC. Texas A&M vs. Arkansas. Oklahoma vs. Texas. And Arkansas vs. Florida. With my team being in the playoffs I don't know what other games I'll be able to attend.”

Orji has taken notice of the Texas defense the last several weeks.

“The Longhorns have had a good past two weeks with their defense tightening up at the end of the game to help the team win,” Orji said. “I think Texas will have a good game vs. West Virginia. Texas has only gotten better throughout the season, and I think it'll show in the game.”
