Recruiting has picked up as of late for JUCO defensive tackle Larrell Murchison. The Mississippi Rebels verbal pledge has gained interest from several D-I programs recently, including the University of Texas.
First-year DL coach Oscar Giles' recruiting efforts helped sparked Murchison's interest in the Texas Longhorns, and he will have a chance to see for himself what Texas has to offer during his official visit this weekend.
While the Longhorns have not yet extended an offer, the topic has been brought up in his conversations with Giles. When asked how a Texas offer - if extended - would impact his commitment status with Ole Miss, Murchison was direct in his response.
"It would level everything out (if Texas offers)," he said. "I would weigh out my options and see where I fit best."
The trip will be full of first-time experiences for the JUCO prospect. This weekend not only marks his first visit to Austin, it will also be the first time Murchison has ever flown on an airplane - an experience he is "mostly excited" about, rather than being nervous.
But what excites him most is having the opportunity to meet all of the Longhorns and seeing how he fits at Texas.
"Definitely looking forward to meeting Coach Giles and meeting the players," Murchison said. "It's a great chance to see what the University of Texas is all about."
With his parents accompanying him, Murchison should arrive in Austin around 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Senior Longhorn DT Poona Ford is expected be Murchison's weekend host for his official visit.
