Texas Longhorns Commit Max Cummins Excited For Future

Recent Texas commit Max Cummins opens up about his commitment to the Longhorns.

It didn't take long for All-Saints Episcopal DE Max Cummins to make a commitment to the Longhorns. In fact, the decision came before the offer.

Before Texas Longhorns defensive line coach Oscar Giles sat down with Cummins earlier this week, the Longhorns' verbal pledge told his family and his high school coach of his intentions to commit.

"(Coach Giles) basically told me Texas was going to offer me, and I was under the impression they were," Cummins said. "I had already talked to my family and coaches and decided if that offer were to come, I would probably commit."

Cummins described his decision to commit to the Longhorns as a "no-brainer." The defensive end didn't need much convincing from the coaching staff of what the Longhorns have to offer. One thing is for sure, first-year head coach Tom Herman was excited to hear the news.

"He yelled a big 'Yes!'," he said of Herman's response to his commitment. "(Coach Herman) said he was really, really excited about having me there, and to get ready to go win some championships."

Cummins will take an official visit to Texas this weekend. He will travel to Austin with his father by his side.

Of everything the Longhorns have to offer, Cummins is most excited about being able to have a hand in turning around the Texas football program:

"To have the chance to come into a program, get legit playing time against legit competition and be able to build something from the ground up, I really am looking forward to that."
