Recruiting: NMSU Game Visitor Andrew Kelson

The Lone Star State's top-ranked safety prospect, UT commitment Andrew Kelson, tripped to Austin for the Texas-New Mexico State game to support the Horns alongside his brethren decked out in Burnt Orange.

"The game was great," Kelson said. "They started off a little slow, but it was the first game of the season so you kind of expect that."

The Houston Lamar standout also noticed and "enjoyed" how fired up the fan base was for the game. "And, the football team was also fired up."

The No. 9-ranked player on the Texas Top 100 said he got to Austin around 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

"George [Walker] went up there with me and my mom and grandma," Kelson said. "We ate lunch and then watched the team work out and get ready for their game against New Mexico State."

Kelson visited with some of the guys who will be in this year's class but mostly hung out with Nathan Jones and Walker.

As for his thoughts on the unofficial visit, the 6-2, 210-pounder said, "I just really enjoyed the entire day."

High School Notes: This Saturday, Houston Lamar kicks off the season against Cypress Creek. Kelson will continue to tote the rock and play safety in Lamar's 4-4 defense. But he said they were going to play some 4-3 "with a little bit of cover two" before adding, "we're going to do a lot of different things with our defense this year."
