Texas, which has won 17 straight to improve to 19-4 (13-0 Big 12), also ended a 21-game winning streak by Baylor (23-2, 12-1), whose only loss came at No. 1 UConn, 72-61, back on Nov. 17.
Texas led by as many as 16 in the game, but BU went on an 18-3 run to tie the game for the first time - 74-74 - with 2:06 left.
The Longhorns answered by going 3-of-3 shooting and 5-of-6 from the FT line in the final 2:06 and never allowed the Bears to take the lead in the game.
Sophomore Lashann Higgs and freshman Joyner Holmes both hit field goals and two free throws each in the final 2:06. McCarty hit one of two foul shots with 24 seconds left, putting Texas up five (81-76), and Briana Taylor rounded out the scoring with a layup with four seconds left.
Holmes added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Texas, which won the points in the paint - 42-38 - primarily thanks to the penetration of McCarty, Atkins and Higgs (16 points). Texas was relentless in grabbing rebounds and running and scoring in transition.
The Longhorns' outscored BU 10-0 in fast-break points and overcame 24 points from Baylor sophomore, 6-foot-7 center Kalani Brown and 19 points from Alexis Jones, the older sister of Texas freshman guard Andrew Jones.
