A four-star prospect and the No. 2 ranked DT in Missouri, Trout has seen an increase in recruiting interest in recent weeks. The Longhorns are one of dozens of programs to express interest in the 2018 recruit.
In briefly catching up with him, Trout said he maintains even communication with each Power 5 program currently recruiting him, and it has been a "couple weeks" since he last spoke with Texas.
When I asked if he is interested at all in Texas, Trout's response was vague: "Everything is open right now."
While he does not intend to announce his top schools under after his senior season, Trout is looking for a program that has a "community feel" - something that feels like home.
He currently is unsure of exactly what schools he plans to visit, but intends to participate in The Opening regional camps.
Scout.com Analysis: Trevor Trout
Trout is a tank in the middle of his defense. He is the type of prospect in the middle who will command a double team and once he is established into a gap he will not be moved. He has a pretty quick first step for a big guy and is very strong. He is at his best when he is blowing up blocks and helping to control the opponents run game. As he grows and matures and gains more natural strength he is definitely a guy who can take on and defeat double-teams. He is a defensive tackle who can move around the line of scrimmage and help be a disruptive force on the inside and collapse the pocket. -- Greg Powers, Scout.com National Recruiting Analyst
