Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point High School standout Mustapha Muhammad is the No 1 tight end prospect on the board for 2018. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound playmaker is the No 2 ranked TE prospect in the class of 2018 according to Scout.com and No 38 overall regardless of position.
“I came with my mother and little brother,” Mustapha Muhammad said. “We touched base with Coach Meekins and Coach Herman, and then I hung out with Sam Ehlinger, Toneil Carter Jr. and the tight ends it was fun. I spoke with everyone on the coaching staff, and then they wanted to let me and all of the other recruits know that we can "revolutionize" UT and actually make a difference if we all team up and join the Longhorns. I was able to vibe with all of the recruits here I feel a great sense of comfort because there were many familiar faces. Texas sits well with my family and I. I think we were really impressed.”
Muhammad is what you are looking for in a tight end prospect and will be coming out of high school in more of the Jermaine Gresham mold. He is a top-level pass catcher at the position. He is long and lean. He has long arms and big hands to help him make the tough catches. He also has soft hands. He runs good routes and can get open. He will create a lot of mismatches when the team is looking to pick up a key third down or needs to find someone to finish off drives in the red-zone. While he may be a bit more receiver at this point in his physical development, he is a good blocker and gets the job done when tasked with putting his hand on the ground at the line of scrimmage. He still will need to add some size and mass on his frame as he transitions to college, but there will be plenty of time for that, and it may not even be a question at all by the time his signing date rolls around as he continues to be a bit bigger each time we see him. - Greg Powers
