After announcing the Longhorns would open spring practice solely to UT students earlier this month, the first-year head coach has one-upped himself with a new initiative to bring pride and tradition back to Texas football.
In a PSA-esque video released Monday, Herman called for all University of Texas students to not only come watch the Longhorns spring practice March 25, but to also participate in Texas football's first-ever Student Appreciation Day practice.
Current UT students will be given the opportunity to test their talents against some Longhorn greats of the past - including Michael Huff, Aaron Ross, Marquise Goodwin and others - in a skills competition. Students will also be able to interact with the team and coaches following practice.
"You create the home field advantage in Austin, and the purpose of this day is to say, 'Thank You,'" Herman said in the video. "We want you to take ownership of the program and we want you to know that you always have access to your team."
