Four-star TE Malcolm Epps is one of the several top 2018 and 2019 D-I prospects HornsDigest.com saw over the weekend.
A member of Fast Houston 7v7, Epps played alongside Texas Longhorns prospects and commits -- including QB pledge Casey Thompson and 2017 signee Josh Thompson -- at Team Texas Classic 7-on-7 tournament in Houston.
The nation's No. 9 ranked TE showed up to the event sporting a burnt orange Texas hat, and was wearing it at various times throughout the day. When I asked Epps about wearing the UT gear, he played it off saying he "just likes the hat."
However, Epps has been high on Texas, and vice versa, for a while, and he wants to return for a visit sometime this summer. His recent offer to also have the chance to play basketball for Texas is a significant factor working in the Longhorns' favor with his recruitment.
Epps is not giving up on his goal of playing football AND basketball in college, and the program(s) to give him the opportunity to play both sports will likely have an advantage in landing the tight end.
As it stands, Texas and Texas A&M are the only schools to offer Epps as a dual-sport athlete, which he said that will play an "important role" in his ultimate decision.
