Texas has been hitting the recruiting trail before getting ready to host its first mini-camp this weekend. Some of this week's stops featured a heavy focus on Houston-area prospects.
The Longhorns' dropped by Lamar to see Anthony Cook, D'Shawn Jamison and Al'vonte Woodard. Texas is in good standing with both D'Shawn Jamison and Al'Vonte Woodard, but from what I have been hearing, Cook is a bit of a different situation.
Cook isn't one who says much in the recruiting process. However, several people close to him have mentioned the Longhorns still being in the mix, but there's ground to be made up with Cook.
Texas also stopped by Houston Heights to see four-star Jalen Green. The CB is another one high on the Longhorns and vice versa.
Bellaire Episcopal WR Jaylen Waddle got a visit from the staff. Texas is working on recruiting Waddle, as are a few 2018 Texas commits. From what I have heard, Waddle is listening to the Longhorns, but there's work to be done.
Through talking to several prospects and folks close to them, I feel Texas is currently in a good spot with the following guys, in addition to those listed in the above.
5-Star WR Brennan Eagles
5-Star S B.J. Foster
4-Star TE Mustapha Muhammad
4-Star S DeMarvion Overshown
4-Star DT Keondre Coburn
4-Star TE Malcolm Epps
4-Star RB Keaontay Ingram
All-in-all, it's fair to say Tom Herman and his staff have done a solid job with some of the top national prospects in 2018.
