Benson, Vasher Named ‘Big 12 Players Of The Week'

RB Cedric Benson and CB Nathan Vasher nabbed Big 12 Player of the Week honors for their work in Texas' 46-15 dismantling of Texas A&M last Friday.

Benson's 283 yards on 35 carries was a career best while his four scores gave him 20 rushing TDs for the year (tied with Virginia Tech's Kevin Jones for tops in the nation). His best move, however, was to credit his surging offensive line immediately following the game.

"The six guys up front work hard," Benson said. "We bust our tails in practice. We pretty much know what it takes to win the football game and we work towards that."

Benson has run for 1,277 yards in 11 games (116 ypg) to rank No. 13 nationally and No. 2 in Big 12 play.

Vasher's third quarter interception, his sixth of the season, in the back of the end zone was the final dagger in A&M's third-quarter momentum swing. It also was his 17th career INT, tying legendary Noble Doss on the school's all-time list. The classy Doss has frequented Longhorn practices the past couple of weeks, encouraging Vasher to break the record. Since stats count in bowl games, Vasher should have his chance in, say, Tempe Arizona early next month.
