Recruiting: Franklin Okam Update

While Adrian Peterson ended the suspense in San Antonio at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, making the Sooners one 5-star blue chip richer and the Horns still 5-star bluechipper-less, Florida's Xavier Lee remains a slight possibility for Mack Brown and Co.'s efforts to ink a quarterback. But does 5-star DT target Franklin Okam remain the Horns' best hope of not being shut out of the loftier class of "difference-makers"?

We caught up with the Lone Star State Lake Highlands prep immediately after the U.S. Army AA game to gain a little more perspective on his status going forward...

Initially, he seemed a bit undecided about his path over the coming weeks. When asked whether or not he planned on taking official visits to Gainesville, FL (1/16) and Norman, OK (1/23), Okam said: "It depends on how things go in the next two weeks. I've already missed the first district basketball game, so..."

But then later, he asserted a more confident demeanor about his direction in the recruiting process as the interview ran its course...

"I think it's likely I'll officially trip to Florida and Oklahoma," he said. "I'd like to compare both schools with Texas. I've never been to Oklahoma or Florida, so I don't know how they compare."

Dean: So this is a three-team race and you're definitely going to trip to UF and OU?

Okam: Yes, I want to take those trips.
