Recruiting: Horns Now In Contention For Top QB

As of last week Xavier Lee, The's No. 2 rated quarterback in the country, was down to Florida State and Auburn. After an excellent visit to Austin, the Texas Longhorns have entered the sweepstakes for the state of Florida's all-time touchdown leader.

"My visit went real well," Xavier Lee said Sunday evening. "I would rate my visit a nine. The highlight of the visit was the basketball game. While I was walking around, the student section started chanting my initials and held up a sign with my picture on it. It was quite unexpected. I was very flattered." So where do the Horns fit into his plans?

"They are right there with Auburn and Florida State," he said. "I got chance to talk with Mack Brown a bit. He asked for a chance. We talked about the depth chart. (Chance) Mock is graduating next year and (Vince) Young probably will leave a year early for the NFL."

Lee also got to experience the outstanding nightlife of Austin.

"Sixth Street was real nice," he said. "It was real cool."

The 6-foot-3 and 210 pound All-American will announce at his high school's banquet on Sunday January 25th. What will be the main factor in his college choice?

"I need to talk with my mom about it," Lee said. "I'm going to go with what she thinks is best. I'm also going to take into factor what's best for me."

Will his half-brother (Anthony Kelly) be a factor?

"Yes," he said. "He's supposed to make it in at Florida State next December but that's not etched in stone."
