The interior defensive lineman cited the blend of athletics, academics and the social opportunities as a few of the reasons Texas came out on top.
"Hopefully, I'll get the opportunity to play as a true freshman," he said.
Asked by the host if the Longhorn coaches indicated when he might see the field, the Lone Star State's No. 5 said, "They said if I come in and work hard, come in there ready, I could play early."
The recruiting process can be rather burdensome as Okam took four official visits in three weeks, still managing to play basketball, conduct interviews, and go to school.
"I'm finally glad it's over," he said.
Okam also said he thought it was going to be "Texas all the way," before adding that it wasn't until his final official visit to Stanford (1/30) that he fully knew Austin was where he wanted to make his home for the next four years.
