Horns Land First Commitment

After reporting a few days ago that UT's first commitment of the 2005 recruiting class could come from Texarkana Texas High linebacker Chris Collins this weekend, looks like we were right. But just how solid is that verbal?

Caught up with Texarkana stallion Chris Collins to check in on his commitment status.

Essentially, the 6-0/6-1, 230-pounder said he may have hinted at committing to Texas yesterday, but he never really told anybody at UT.

"I told my coach that I wanted to go ahead and do it, when I got home. And I guess he told Texas. But I never talked to anybody at Texas about it."

Asked if he felt comfortable about it being reported that he gave Texas his verbal and the fact that it's already out there, Collins said, "Yeah. It's just a verbal."

So is he in fact done with the process?

Could he still take some visits?

"I could still take some visits."

Because the future 4-star prospect said he was fine with being listed as a UT commitment, but could still take some additional visits, he may be closer to what you'd call a 'soft verbal'...

The top two schools presently behind Texas?

"LSU and OU."
