Junior Report: Klein TE/OL Mark Ortmann

Mark Ortmann made a huge jump in the most recent Texas Hot 100. Originally slated at No. 82, the 6'6, 265-pounder's stock has risen to 37th-best (overall) for several reasons.

One of those could be easily defined as "versatility". Ortmann, who projects as an OT by most, will actually start at TE again this season for Klein.

"I'll be playing tight end and defensive tackle this season," Ortmann told TheInsiders.com. "Last year, I caught seven balls. I'm hoping to get a lot more this season."

With Klein light on experience last year, the greater-Houston area prep foresees better times/more wins this season.

"We only had 10 lettermen last year," Ortmann explained. "This year, we have 15 and 13 of them started. So, we should improve a lot on both offense and defense."

The Lone Star State's fifth-best lineman, at least at this point, has been getting looks from a few big-time colleges.

A&M, Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Nebraska and the home town Houston Cougars are showing interest, according to Ortmann.

"All those schools have been telling me they would like to see me in their colors next year," he said. "Right now, I'm looking forward to the upcoming season. I think we can do some good things."

Other stats/numbers?

"Bench: 340; squat: 430; power clean: 285; vertical: 25-inches; GPA: 3.5."
