Recruiting: Horns Offer Another QB

A lot of college programs don't miss a year without taking a quarterback. And even fewer go without a signal caller for two straight classes. But that's exactly what the Longhorns did and now they're looking to take two in '05. They've now officially offered their second out-of-state passer...

We know about Louisiana's Ryan Perrilloux, Pflugerville's Todd Walker and Tuscola's Colt McCoy. But who's the new gunslinger?

Try the 6-2, 210-pound Mark Sanchez on for size...

"Texas came out and checked me out Monday," said the Mission Viejo QB. "And then I called them Tuesday and they said they were offering me a scholarship. Today, though, I got the official letter."

Sanchez also has offers from USC, Stanford, Nebraska and Duke...

"I'm wide-open. I'd like to take a visit to all the schools I'm considering to learn more about them."

One of the schools on his unofficial visit list will be The University of Texas.

"They definitely have a good shot. I've heard a lot of good things about them. And I will definitely take a trip there." The most interesting fact to note for the Cali QB concerning UT is the fact that "they haven't signed a QB in two years. And that it's a real prestigious program. And I've heard so many great things about Austin, Mack Brown, Greg Davis and Coach (Dick) Tomey." Asked what EA Sports Elite QB coach (Bob) Johnson had to say about Texas, the senior-to-be said, "He's had nothing but good things to say. He said their facilities are second to none. And their university, team and coaches are good as it gets."

A noticeably excited Sanchez, who also collected an official offer from USC this week, said he's "wide-open".
