Junior Update: Who's Working Hardest For Granger?

DeMarcus Granger</B>, who advanced to regionals in the shot and disc, hopes to move onto the next and final round in both, but he'll need lady luck on his side in the discus and his A game for shot this coming weekend. We talk about that and his recruitment, of course, which has two Big 12 South schools throwing everything they've got at the Kimball pass-rushing juggernaut.

"My best is 60 feet," said DeMarcus Granger on his best mark ever in the shot. "But that was in practice. When I get to the meet, it's usually 55. But I think I can hit 57 feet. And I think that's good enough to get to state."

And in the discus event he'll need lady luck in his corner...

"My best is probably 160 feet," said the state's No. 6. "That's about fifth-best. I'll need to get 180 feet to move on."

Most recent scholarship offers?

"Nebraska and Oklahoma."

Asked who is recruiting him the hardest, Granger said, "Texas and Texas A&M."

After that?

"I'd have to say the Florida Gators."

Dean: You said Texas was one of the schools recruiting you the hardest. Talk a little bit about those guys...

DeMarcus Granger: I talk to their defensive line coach a lot (Tolle/Tomey). And they've sent a lot of DLs to the NFL the last 6 years. So they're doing very good there. And I talk a lot to Coach Chambers. Mack Brown writes me a lot of hand-written letters.

Dean: Let's talk about Texas A&M. You said they were also recruiting you very hard.

DG: Yes, they have. I'm talking to Coach Franchione and Coach Eggan all the time.

Dean: And Florida?

DG: Coach Zook came by the school not too long ago. And I like them.

Dean: Any summer camp plans?

DG: I'm going to the Dallas MSL camp either May 22nd or 23rd. I'm already signed up...

For more information on the MSL combines, go to www.mslcombines.com or simply click here. Kids planning on attending the May 22nd or 23rd SMU Dallas camps, contact Stacey Dean via his email address which is sdean@theinsiders.com, if you have any difficulties registering.

You MUST pre-register or you will not be able to participate. There will be no last-minute walk-ups. If you're not yet signed up, you're missing out on the most realistic NFL Combine-like event, including the NFL HRT test (NFL aptitude/personality test) soon-to-be NFLers take, not to mention every drill the NFL Combine puts on and perhaps the most exciting aspect -- position-specific instruction via former/current NFL coaches and/or players. Are you ready to take YOUR game to the next level?
