Junior Report: Grapevine DE/RB Henry Melton

We caught up with Grapevine head coach Gary Mullins to talk a little Henry Melton, a Texas Hot 100 top-fiver, to grab some background information on the 6-3, 240-pound athlete...

Henry Melton's numbers per Grapevine HC Gary Mullins:
HT -- 6-4
WT -- 263
40 -- 4.6
20 (shuttle) -- 4.20/4.21
Bench -- 350
Squat -- 500
Clean -- 295
Vertical -- 33'6

The Grapevine HC said he thinks Melton could possibly project at three different positions on the next level...

"He could wind up playing defensive end, running back, maybe even tight end," Mullins said.

We like Melton as a LB/DE (for now), but some like the kid as a running back.

"He's real big," Mullins acknowledged, "But the way he runs, he could play running back. He's not a straight-line runner like Herschel Walker. He's got a little shiftiness to him. And he's got a lot of power. He runs kind of like an Earl Campbell. I think he could play running back in college."

As for the DE projection, the Grapevine HC definitely sees that as an option considering his size/strength package to go along with his speed and quickness...

"He's now up to 6-4, 263 pounds," Mullins said. "He'll probably play at 240 this year."

"And I could see him at tight end also," Mullins continued. "If teams don't want to use him as an end, they could use him at tight end. He's got a great pair of hands."

Mullins said he wasn't fully aware of Melton's official offers.

"I know he has an official offer from Arkansas," he said. "And I know Texas and Texas A&M will be coming after him, if they haven't already. I don't know what offers Henry might have at the house."
